My name's Zenubia. I'm a Professional Belly Dancer based in NYC & Boston. Hire me to dance at your special occasions, including weddings, birthday parties, corporate events, bar & bat mitzvahs, sweet sixteens, bachelorette parties, & theatrical, cultural & commercial events. You can customize my performance by choosing which costume you'd like me to appear in, or you can let me surprise you. I can also dance with a veil, zils (finger cymbals), cane, sword, & shamadan (candelabra for the head).

I'm also available for regular appearances at ethnic night clubs, restaurants & cafes. Some of the venues in NYC in which I regularly dance are Cleopatra Night Club (Brooklyn); Al-Sulaymaniyya (NJ); Tarboosh (Brooklyn); Casa Le Femme (NYC) & Le Sajj (Brooklyn).

Most recently, I've appeared on Arab TV doing a traditional Egyptian Saidi dance at the International Cultures Parade in NYC in July 2006, and have performed in Cairo's Ahlan wa Sahlan Dance Festival (July 2006). In addition to performing as a soloist, I am currently a member of Belly Trance Dance Group, which regularly performs at numerous private events in the tristate area. I was also a member of the Mosaic Dance Theater, and have studied under internationally acclaimed instructors such as Yosry Sharif, Raqia Hassan, Atef & Magda Farag, Asmahan, Mohamed Shahin, & Jehan & Samara of NY.

My dance training also includes a lifetime of ballet and jazz at the Neubert Ballet of Carnegie Hall and the world-renowned Joffrey Ballet Company. I am currently pursuing a master's degree in Middle Eastern Studies at Harvard University, after which I intend to pursue a Ph.D. and perhaps work in the Middle East.

Are you looking for an inspiring dance class, perhaps you want to add a unique and exciting touch to your special event or celebration, or maybe you're just looking for accurate and factual information about various aspects of the history and culture of Oriental Dance; if so, this is the site for you.

When most people think of the Middle East, what usually comes to mind is either oil or political unrest. However, if you make an effort to look beyond these limiting stereotypes, you will find that there are far more positive things that this region has to offer the world.

Almost 20 years ago, a teenager living in the South Bronx was introduced to the world of Middle Eastern music and Dance. It gave him a reason to be happy, a way to experience joy, it increased his self esteem, but most importantly, it showed him that there were things worth living for and inspired him to do something productive with his life. That teenager was me.

I've made this website to help share that joy with you, while also creating an appreciation of Middle Eastern Dance as a legitimate art-form and cultural expression, on a par with Flamenco, Hula, African and Classical Indian Dance. In so doing, I hope that you will gain an understanding and respect for the many peoples of The Middle East and North Africa and be motivated to explore the may treasures that they have to offer the world.
