Introduction

I just moved to New York from DC, and want to meet new diverse people as well as improve my Arabic skills and learn more about the Middle East! I lived in Morocco for 6 months and miss it...

Do you speak Arabic? If so, what dialect(s). Do you know Modern Standard Arabic (FuSHa?) Can you read, write or speak FuSHa? Your answers will help us better offer suitable language workshops for the club.

I speak some Moroccan dialect, although it is very rusty now, after almost 4 years. I also know the basics of FusHa, and can read and write a bit, although my speaking skills are in the dialect.

Have you visited the Middle East, &, if so, where & in what capacity? For that matter, where have you traveled outside the US? Do you speak any other languages besides English & Arabic? No, this info won't be shared with the FBI !

My father is from Nigeria and I have lived there as well as a semester abroad in Morocco, and I've traveled to France, Spain, and Japan. I speak French near fluently.

How did you find this group and, now that you're here, what do you want from it? For example, do you prefer Middle Eastern Music events, Dinner Parties, Language Workshops, Live Theatre, or just getting together to meet new people and have fun?

I found the group by browsing under Arabic Meet-up groups, and would love to attend cultural/social events as well as definitely language classes or conversation practice.

Do you have any experience working with Non-Profits? I ask because I'm considering establishing the club as a Non-Profit in the near future.

I was a non-profit grant writer in a previous life, with Somali refugees.

What is your current job/profession/field? What is your dream job?

I'm a grad student in International Public Health. Dream job is to work in mental health programming and policy specifically for immigrants and refugees globally.
