Introduction

as'Salaam 3'liykum!Ismi Michael'Jamal'.Kuntu mutatawe'3a m'3 al'munadhama al'hi'at as'Salaam f'Maghrib.I was a PCV in Morocco('02-'03)-b4 the program was suspended due to the US Invasion of Iraq.I joined this group primarily to keep up w/my Arabic.

Do you speak Arabic? If so, what dialect(s). Do you know Modern Standard Arabic (FuSHa?) Can you read, write or speak FuSHa? Your answers will help us better offer suitable language workshops for the club.

I'm studying Modern Standard Arabic (al'FuSHa) & can read/write/speak at a intermediate level. I speak Moroccan Arabic (Darija) much better, having lived in Morocco while working as a Peace Corps Volunteer. I also teach beginning Arabic (MSA).

Have you visited the Middle East, &, if so, where & in what capacity? For that matter, where have you traveled outside the US? Do you speak any other languages besides English & Arabic? No, this info won't be shared with the FBI !

I lived in Morocco while working as an Environmental Educator with the US Peace Corps. I also taught English at the ALC in Marrakesh. I speak 'survival' French. I bicycled through Europe in '87, & also through Canada.I've been to Aruba as well.

How did you find this group and, now that you're here, what do you want from it? For example, do you prefer Middle Eastern Music events, Dinner Parties, Language Workshops, Live Theatre, or just getting together to meet new people and have fun?

I found this club through an ad I placed in Craigslist in '03.I was contacted & sent a link for something called'the Arabic Meetup Group'.It was Exactly what I was looking for-others interested in studying Arabic & learning more about Arab culture!

Do you have any experience working with Non-Profits? I ask because I'm considering establishing the club as a Non-Profit in the near future.

I have extensive experience working with Non-Profits. I spent a year with Habitat for Humanity, a year with AmeriCorps, & am active with the High Atlas Foundation. I volunteered w/the Int'l Red Cross, Salvation Army, & Meals on Wheels, among others.

What is your current job/profession/field? What is your dream job?

Unfortunately, I'm currently unemployed.I had been working with the UN (DPKO),but my contract ended.I have a variety of work & life experience.I haven't yet found my chosen profession.Dream job?Helping the world become a better place to live.

What Michael Kim 'Jamal' Riegelman is saying about this Meetup Group

Words alone can Not Describe how much I enjoy this Club. I truly grateful to have found it - thanks to the woman I met at the Coffee Pot who told me about it! I have met and made more friends than I can remember. I wish I would have known about this place sooner! Everyone Without Exception has been a unique joy to meet. I hope we continue to grow together and continue our elusive quest for Arabic fluency, while having a Great Time doing it! Heck, even if you aren't interested in learning Arabic, and some of you aren't, that's OK too! If anyone ever needs to contact me, my cell number is (347) 523.3937 and my eMail is Michael.Riegelman@gmail.com. Peace/Shalom/Salaam! Michael Kim 'Jamal' Riegelman
